GREENHOUSE CUCUMBERS

Did you know?
Greenhouse cucumbers have many aliases. They are often identified as Seedless, English, Euro or Hydroponic Cucumbers.

Did you know?
Mini cucumbers are just a smaller snack–size version of the larger greenhouse cucumber.

Did you know?
Greenhouse cucumbers are considered seedless because they are not pollinated. This is especially helpful for preventing gas caused by eating cucumber seeds! This does not mean they are completely seedless, but the consistency of the seeds is more like that of a seedless watermelon and few and far between.

Did you know?
The skin of a cucumber is rich in fibre and contains many nutrients! It is completely edible, so be sure not to peel them!

Did you know?
Ontario greenhouse cucumbers can be found all year long! You will find greenhouse cucumbers wrapped or mini cucumbers in bags or trays.

GREENHOUSE TOMATOES

Did you know?
Greenhouse tomatoes come in a variety of colours such as red, orange, yellow, green, pink, brown, black, white, and even striped.

Did you know?
Tomatoes are the number one source of lycopene, a red pigment and strong antioxidant, which provides protection for your body!

Did you know?
Ontario greenhouse tomatoes can be found as early as March as late as November!

Did you know?
Greenhouse tomatoes on–the–vine are extra fresh because they continue to ripen the entire time they are on the vine!

Did you know?
You should never refrigerate greenhouse tomatoes, it changes their texture and can affect the flavour.

GREENHOUSE PEPPERS

Did you know?
Red, yellow and orange bell peppers contain three to four times more vitamin C than an orange!

Did you know?
All bell peppers start off as green, and then change to the appropriate colour based on the variety of pepper!

Did you know?
Ontario greenhouse peppers can be found from March until late November. Look for them loose, or in packages of three or four.

Did you know?
In order to provide greenhouse peppers throughout the year, the pepper plant in a greenhouse can grow up to twenty feet high!

Did you know?
When storing greenhouse peppers, you should keep greenhouse peppers away from ethylene producing fruits and vegetables, such as tomatoes, apples and peaches.

FIND LOCAL

To find local product in your store, be sure to check for the “Product of Ontario” and “Product of Canada” signs in your store. Additionally, be sure to check the PLU or packaging of the product to ensure it reads Ontario. Checking for the Foodland Ontario logo is another great way to look for local product.
