Simple tips on healthy eating
Simple tips on healthy eating

(NC)—Recent research from the Dietitians of Canada showed that almost 25 per cent of Canadians surveyed said they hadn't consumed any fruits or vegetables the previous day. It's true that finding the right fit between nutrients, taste and convenience isn't always easy, but there are simple tips to help make it easier.

Think about juices – a 250 mL glass of 100% fruit juice traditionally contains two full servings of fruits and veggies. With 100% fruit juice there is no added sugar – it's just juice. Kids love it and it is good for the whole family.

• Think ahead – pre-cut your fruit and vegetables and store them in your refrigerator. Having pre-cut pieces handy makes it easier for everyone when they are looking for a quick snack.

• Change it up – fruit and veggies can be served in a variety of ways. Products like Mott's Frustrations are a great solution. They come in a wide variety of flavours, are quick and easy to serve and they can go anywhere. Most of all, kids love them so there isn't a challenge getting them to eat. Add granola, nuts or cereal to mix things up a bit.

• Look for high impact – Many fruits and vegetables offer added benefits. Oranges not only taste great but are high in vitamin C, bananas are high in potassium and grape juice, made with Concord grapes, is not only a family favourite but is packed with more polyphenols than even cranberry juice.

• Find what your kids love and work with it— Incorporate your fruit or juice into other meal ideas. Welch's 100% Grape Juice makes great popsicles and kids love the flavour. Create smoothies with fresh or frozen fruit and milk, and you have a great morning drink or a quick afternoon pick-me-up.

(NC)—If you experience fatigue after eating, or experience gas, bloating, heartburn, acid reflux, or nausea, you may be suffering from impaired digestion due to a lack of proper enzymes in your system.

Enzymes are produced by our bodies and act on food in the small intestine, stomach or mouth. Food enzymes are found in raw foods, which come equipped with some of the enzymes needed for their own digestion. However, enzymes are heat–sensitive––so cooking and processing can destroy 100 per cent of the naturally occurring enzymes in food.
